Today’s music is a counterpoint. From London to Glasgow we remembered the classic film, music and poetry of Night Mail. For the return journey it’s Night Mail by Public Service Broadcasting. This re-edit, remix, refurbished recording is a gem.
Having returned the wheelchair, we gave ourselves plenty time to get up to the main hall of the station. It’s close, but with crutches, suitcases and lifts out of order we took our time.

Knowing the limitations of railway food we stocked up with sandwiches, buns and water at Pret A Manger.
Having found the Assisted Passenger Lounge we awaited our train. About 15 minutes from departure it was canceled. Our joys on this trip continue.
The revised train required a change at Crewe and we couldn’t use our reserved seats. Fortunately the Assisted Passenger Service gets you on the train before anyone else. A buggy took us to a carriage and staff loaded the luggage and Sharon, ensuring we had good seats.
Given that the previous train had been cancelled this one was bursting at the seams.
Strangely, this train was actually going to London Euston. The change at Crewe was solely to get us on to a faster train. We decided to stay put, preferring guaranteed seats and not getting on and off.
We read, listened to books and podcasts and generally stared out of the window.
Taxi from Euston to Paddington, train to Heathrow. Terminal 2 hotel, dinner. We both fell asleep to The Inspector Linley Mysteries – 25 years old and yet it’s clear TV’s template for crime drama is unchanged.
