On track?

All Scotland waits for her.’

Today’s soundtrack is John Laurie (Fraser in Dad’s Army) reading Night Mail by W.H. Auden.

Up early, we kicked our heels and then slowly got ready for the train to Scotland.

At Euston Station we were met by Customer Service and taken, Sharon in wheelchair, to the Assisted Travel Lounge. Then when the time came it was a buggy ride to our carriage and Sharon was helped aboard.

Between us, all of the above applied.
On our way to Scotland.

The trip was uneventful. Sharon had her audio book. Pete continued to grapple with revised plans and the travel insurance claim.

As we neared Scotland we pointed out various spots we recognised from our last UK walk.

Glasgow Central Station.

After negotiating the escalator at Glasgow station (lift out of order) we met our chums in the hotel reception. Along with the wheelchair Sharon had ordered. Very nice to meet Fiona, Hugh’s better half, after all these years.

After a wash and a brush up it was into the Rhoderic Dhu. The ladies took a conservative approach while the boys raced into the beer like thirsty pirates.

Plenty of whiskey inside!
A quiet moment at the bar.

Just up the road a crowd had gathered to watch filming of the new Spider-Man movie.

Peter Parker is in there somewhere.

It was a very late night for some, but Sharon & Pete bailed very early in order to tackle the injection of her blood thinners. Pete then went out to pick up takeaway pizza.

At which point his credit card was declined. The bank app said it had been blocked.

So, then it was a late night dealing with the bank in New Zealand. A dodgy merchant had triggered the block. Sorted relatively easily this was still a considerable stress on the nerves.

After that the insurance company phoned, making it a waste of time going out to try and catch up with everyone else.

We’d been mulling over all sorts of ideas about what to do with the rest of our trip. Our final decision was to be momentous.

I’ve been reading with equal interest and horror. In October I will be travelling to England. I was of a mind not to worry about insurance and just throw the dice. Thanks to your blog I’m having a serious rethink.
I was also intrigued by a couple of other things.

1/ The image on your right earlobe. I thought you had possibly forgotten to scrub it clean during your daily cleanse. I see it is something else.

2/ Simon. Last time I saw him he was a little boy, spoilt by his older brother.
