Back on plan… for a day.

Our plan for Saturday 2nd was to walk the canal from Islington to Hackney Wick. This is not only a good route, but one Peter did often when living in London. It also featured recently on John Rogers’s YouTube channel.

The objective was the new Victoria & Albert Museum East Storehouse, in the Olympic Village. We would then return by train.

Obviously Plan B involved an Uber in both directions.

Today’s music, Hackney Wick by Rose Gray.

The Storehouse is exactly as the name suggests, along with restoration and study. But most importantly it’s an incredible building and experience in its own right. The photos tell you everything.

Fabric restoration.
The whole interior of a Moor palace.
Theatre set design.
More fabric.
An entire office from a Pittsburgh department store. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Pete has already mentioned that for him there are two great restaurants in London. Langan’s is one, the other Frederick’s. The first is a big central London glamour venue. The second a very classy neighbourhood joint, hiding its light under a bushel.

A shop front exterior on a small backstreet.

Dinner was fab. Sharon had courgette flowers, breaded chook with Mediterranean vegetables, followed by crème brûlée. Pete: beef carpaccio, duck and the cheese plate. A breakout sampling was a Patagonian red wine.

Tired but happy.

Full as.

Pete’s evening is rounded off on the upside by a bottle of Sharp’s brewery Chalky’s Bite. Great beer, great packaging. Named after Rick Stein’s dog.

Sharon’s evening is a bit sourer. The stomach injection of blood thinners.

Beer and needle disposal.
